We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I organize events around continuing education for barbers and clients called The Barber Sense Grooming Session to encourage them to take their grooming to the next level. However I am currently organizing a fundraiser event on Sunday, June 28th at Privado Grooming Suites called “Beats To Fade Injustice.” This is where synergy and grooming merge for a cause. I will have DJ Jash Jay @DJJashJay, Atlanta’s Elite Barbers with special guest barbers providing the best signature haircuts and a black owned food truck available. The proceeds from all haircut services will be donated to The Atlanta Solidarity Fund to support people who were arrested at protests, or otherwise prosecuted for their movement involvement. This event will be live streamed for those that want to enjoy the vibes from home and donate to a great cause.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Barber Sense is a business catered to men and women grooming experiences. However I predominantly assist men in teaching them how to better care for their hair, skin, scalp and beard. I love helping my clients reach their goals so they not only look good but feel their absolute best. Barber Sense is synergy, education and a safe haven for relaxing grooming services. Barber Sense was birthed from being burned out in corporate America, limits put on my creativity in my field and lack of work/ life balance. I encourage anyone that feels like they are not living in their purpose to keep their faith high and find the courage to start working towards their passion. Nothing feels better than creating the life you want to live.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a big time foodie I even have another Instagram by the name of @reservedforfoodies showcasing restaurants and experiences I’ve enjoyed all over the world. My best friend would expect to be taken on a progressive foodie date. I would start with brunch at Bar Mercado then head to Rumpunch brunch party at Sound Table on Edgewood to work off some food and vibe. Later for dinner appetizers at Poor Calvins, cocktails at Bon Ton, dinner at Negril Village and dessert at my favorite ice cream joint Jeni’s. Other places that we would go throughout the week: Ponce City Market Rooftop Bike riding on the belt line The Local for Karaoke and the best wings Go on a hike High Museum of Art Statefarm arena to catch a concert or game The Battery

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can’t start to thank anyone before expressing my gratitude to God. Without him none of this would be possible because having faith brings out the courage to accomplish everything I have done thus far. I would then move on to thank the my little big sister Tanya for lending her ear, providing nothing but love and encouragement throughout my journey. My next person would be to Lindell Jones (Owner of Razor Edge Products) my barber school instructor who was tough on me, who motivated me constantly and still does til this day. My next shoutout would be Samuel Glickman, who saw greatness in me before I saw it in myself. I would like to thank Yisrael Wright who planted the Next Level Grooming seed in me to grow my business to another level. Last but not least my beautiful, amazing and intelligent girlfriend Brenna who deserves the biggest shoutout for believing in me and staying by my side throughout the ups and downs of this rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship.
