We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Britton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendra, how do you think about risk?
Risks are necessary and essential to success. For instance, I took a risk on April 23, 2021, and stepped out on faith into full-time entrepreneurship. Although, I did not have the ideal or suggested startup capital to launch my new business I trusted God about the timing. I decided to pursue my God-given purpose of helping organizations and individuals meet their full potential. My new business venture was a risk that I was willing to take to live the life God had pre-ordained. Therefore, risks, whether in life or business, are the catalysts to launch us into the life we were made to live and enjoy.
What should our readers know about your business?
KB Solutions began in 2019 and it was derived from my passion for serving the Head Start community. This passion was discovered early on in my undergraduate tenure at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). I fell in love with the mission of Head Start that focuses on serving at-risk children ages birth through five years old and low-income families with educational resources. After learning to cultivate and develop my skills in management and leadership roles, I knew I wanted to be more of a resource to help Head Start agencies all over the nation.
At KB Solutions, we provide non-profits, early educational institutions, and Head Start & Early Head Start programs with innovative consulting solutions. We remain on the frontline of what is significant in federal compliance, management systems, and organizational management. We are authorities in monitoring and compliance and regulatory requirements as outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards. It is our overall goal to help organizations optimize and maximize their services with clarity and precision.
In addition to being the CEO of KB Solutions, I am also a certified transformational coach assisting organizations and individuals in reaching their full potential. My ultimate desire as a coach is to help others experience healing and freedom from trauma and to understand their true identity in and through God. I have experienced this and the results of my healing process have allowed me to be a successful person and business owner. Without it, I would have never gained the self-confidence to pursue my purpose and to become a full-time entrepreneur. My role is now to go back and help others access their true identities post-trauma, and to go on to live successful lives.
Throughout my journey, I have learned that sometimes we are our own worst enemies. You and I are in charge of becoming the version of ourselves that God created us to be. This sometimes requires help and getting it is where our strength lies. There are people waiting on me and you…they need what we have. My encouragement to you is “You Are Enough” because He (God) is enough!! When you access and believe what God says about you, the potential inside of you is unlocked, ignited and made to thrive.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Eastern North Carolina in a rural town, which is approximately an hour from the beach. Their time with me would include a trip to the Wrightsville Beach in Wilmington, NC. I am a foodie so we would enjoy some of the local seafood there. I would also make a reservation for us at the famous “Chef and the Farmer”, in Kinston, NC. It is a farm-to-table restaurant that has received national recognition on PBS. We would also ride 90 minutes to the Raleigh-Durham area to have a shopping spree day and enjoy some more great cuisine. Finally, a home-cooked meal with friends and family would be required. It would not be good southern hospitality if we did not have a fish-fry or barbecue because barbeque is synonymous with North Carolina.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Freeheart Ministry that led me through spiritual healing and deliverance. This ministry guided me on a path to see my authentic God-created self. My therapist, Dr. Miranda Pearson, owner of Divine Appointment Counseling Services. Dr. Miranda helped me reach my truths in the areas of my life that needed healing so that I could help others heal. Dr. Catherine Newsome of Catherine Inspires who helped birth my identity of entrepreneurship. Favour Ikome, my business coach and founder of Raising a Generation of Esthers Foundation. Jonatta Harmon, owner of Kingdom Assistance – Branding and Web Design, who was able to take my vision for KB Solutions and bring it to life through the development of my brand and website. I also want to thank my friends/mentors who provided support and guidance to me along the way: Tesia Cooper, founder of Tesia Inspires; Myra Ingram, Executive Director and Frances Starr, Executive Assistant of the Region IV Head Start Association; and Mark Davis, author of “Burning the Boat” and owner of Non-Profit Connections. I would not be where I am today without this collective group of people.
