We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyriq Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyriq, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has played a Huge role in my life and career as a whole. Im a strong believer in. If you don’t try you won’t get anywhere. To make a long story short I left college after my freshmen year because of student loans and knowing that I really didn’t need school to be successful. I know this may sound crazy but I was dong really good at the time as far as school went and one day towards the end of the seamster I checked my student loans account and saw how much I owed and I went to my mom 2 days later and told her I was dropping out. Gave her this huge grand plan on how I was going to get a job touring and or for a production company and that’s how I was gonna make money. Then ill learn everything I need to know from these companies and take the knowledge and start my own one day….needless to say that crazy big plan I came up with worked to perfection. Had a lot of fails on the way and im still experiencing some. But I understand to be really sucessful your gonna fail more times then you succeed and that’s what keeps me getting back up and pushing harder.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a creative you go through these up and downs where you can sometimes feel like your hitting a wall or you not doing enough. So when I got into those places mentally. I just took that time out and learned the business side of things and learned how to make any of the money I’ve made work for me in investing. Thats one of the things that set me aside from a lot of starting business owners or creatives. Im very business savvy. Ive learned that most jobs are not a one man band situation and so to build my business where I want it and out out the products that I wanted I would need to hire people for some jobs and so that’s exactly what I do. Which takes stress off of me on shoot days or show days and either allows me to focus on y creativity or managing my staff. When it comes to the audio engineering side of me and my business a couple things I would say makes me different then a lot of FOH engineers, I focus on making the live performance as close as possible sounding to the studio record as possible. I attended practices to learn the arrangements and run virtual sound checks during the weeks or days leading up to the shows if possible to really dial everything in. Then from there on show day I tune the system out to match the room or outdoor venue we are in to make it sound great. Next step is I feed off the crowd the same way the artist on stage does which helps me make some decisions on levels and bass during the performance. Now on the Video Directing side its simple I become one with the music. I listen to when the bridges are coming and the drops and high points or the songs are and take the viewer through what I like to call an emotional rollercoaster with an unique cinematic approach to it all.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depends on which city if we are in Charleston we HAVE to go eat at Nigels good food and downtown at fleet landing those are deftly my go to spots in Charleston. Now in Atlanta we most definitely have to hit up Atlanta breakfast club in the morning then afternoon stop by Pappadeaux and in the evening go to the Atlanta hawks game and sit near the court. Then maybe the next couple of days hit up some studio and create with people and network and things like that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to send a shoutout to my mother first for always just believing in my dream and supporting the best should could along the way. I also wanna send a shoutout to my father for giving me all those exciting early life experiences on the road and doing shows. That really sparked the fire in me to be in this field im currently in now. My grand parents for always being that ear to listen to my ideas and keeping me organize as I started to have to pay taxes on things and keeping up with paperwork ha they are lifesavers! And lastly to Bobby Simmons.
