Meet Ryan Feemster | Handyman

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Feemster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was, why do for free what I can get paid to do. I was already helping my friends with work around their homes and apartments. I was also doing all of the work around my own home. It was a natural progression. Making money doing what I love is an amazing feeling.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a handyman that does a little bit of everything. My portfolio expands from landscaping to carpentry to electrical. I do a lot of home improvement task. I am most excited when I get to create, whether it be a feature wall, faux fireplace, or building built-ins. How i got to this point is a pretty short story. I started my business in 2019, completing task on the weekends and after my 9-5. I was laid off in October of 2020. I have been a full-time handyman ever since. Because of the work I did early on in my business, I have been employed every day since October 2020. I highly encourage folks to start a business while still working a day job. It is less stress when your bills can be paid with your day job and you are able to reinvest the money your business generates into your business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are a few places I would take them. In no particular order….. The Outkast mural for obvious reasons. An Indian eatery called “Curry Leaf” in Marietta. Stone Mountain for a hike. Tri-Cities Tattoo Company for a tattoo. The Civil Rights Museum. Piedmont Park as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My stepfather and my friends deserve all the credit. My stepfather gave me the skills by watching him do little jobs around the house. He also gave me the confidence to not be scared to try things. Whether it be installing a light or starting a business. My friends deserve credit for planting the seed that being a handyman could be a legitimate business for me.
