Meet Marissa Hornsby: Online Boutique Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Hornsby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marissa, how do you think about risk?
I believe everything we do in life is a risk, mostly because we never know the end result at first glance. For myself and House of Noelle, I’ve taken many risks, I don’t regret any of them. Owning a online store, not really sure of what will transpire but investing in my vision, was a high risk. But it was a risk worth taking, which in my opinion is better than time wasted just thinking about what I could do or if I could be successful. So I tell most people to go for it, whatever the dream or vision is, give it more life and talk about it less. You’ll be surprised with your results ,when you do something that means something to you.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always been a big supporter when it comes to body positivity, women being/feeling great, and women in this generation rising above a lot of stigmas we face from our society. So, when I came across the opportunity to be a boutique for ALL women, I went for it. Where I’m from in Austin, Texas there are not a lot of boutiques that cater to every type of woman or every body type, and I wanted to change that. I researched for at least two months before I actually started promoting myself, no brand name, business page or anything like that. Literally, I would post on Facebook every day 10x a day hoping someone would see it and buy. Along the way, of course, mistakes were made and some worry, but it was worth it all. From the beginning to now, I can say with the deeper engagements I’ve had with customers, my genuine personality, and my drive to be more than just a boutique and be a movement is how I’ve grown better from when I first started.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother and father deserve all the credit and recognition! My father passed last January, but before he was sick he always had a drive that I admired. He hardly ever give up no matter the situation, and had an entrepreneurial spirit that he passed onto me unknowingly. I made a promise to him when he passed that I would never give up, and that I would succeed in everything I do with him mind. So I keep him and his drive to be better, in my thought along my journey with House of Noelle always. My mother has been my number one supporter since I started. She’s a big part of House of Noelle, I constantly to her with my ideas and, even grievances I may have within the business while operating. She lifts my spirits when things are not the best and always tells me how proud she is of me. But honestly I’m so proud of her and everything she has overcame. I dedicate this to my mom and dad, love you both!
