Meet Sarian Mobolade | Product and Character Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarian Mobolade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarian, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The simple answer is, I really wanted to make more of the things I enjoy! I tend to have an interest in subjects that aren’t as popular in the West as they are in the East, like kawaii styles. It was hard to find the hyper-cute and colorful accessories in my local stores, so I decided to make all the cute things I liked myself. I saw that there were other people like me looking for similar items and found my audience.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artistic career has not been easy. Lots of ups and downs, and heartbreaks. It took me a long time to find my voice, but I have persevered in order to become the artist I am today. I am a character designer by trade and started my journey working in animation. Over the past four years, I’ve become increasingly interested in physical products. The styles from early 2000s Saturday morning cartoons have been a large inspiration to my work.
I never stick to one genre or style. I like to experiment with each illustration and design I make. I’d say the biggest lesson I have learned on my journey is to keep my eyes and mind open. Never take anything too seriously and have fun with what I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever my friends stop by, I always take them to the Marrieta Square Market for good eats. It’s my favorite place to hang out, and a great starting point to explore the Square. After that, I’d head down to Sandy Springs to play games at Battle and Brew. They have a wide variety of video games and board games, so it’s always a hit with my friend group. Finally, I’d take a trip to Perimeter Mall for a shopping spree. Taking a walk around the different shops and catching up on old times ‘ sake. I’m pretty straightforward when it comes to my social life. For me, the most exciting part of anything is having the chance to be with my friends!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to shout out my parents for their unconditional love and support of my craft. My family is Nigerian, and traditionally, we become doctors, lawyers, or engineers. My parents, though, did not hold me to those same standards. They saw my passion for the arts and gave me every opportunity to explore my interests. I don’t believe I would be where I am today without them. Thanks, mom and dad!
