Meet Ryan Pak | Cinematographer (Director of Photography) & Co-Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Pak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue my creative career in filmmaking, specifically as a director of photography, because of how storytelling has a unique ability to evoke a myriad of emotions and reactions from the audience. Whether it’s the joy derived from a well written comedy or the inspiration felt during an action packed sci-fi, storytelling serves as a powerful connection between the audiences and their emotions. As a cinematographer, I’m passionate about creating awe inspiring visuals through carefully designed composition and lighting that will resonate with people to create a shared human experience. Also, I find fulfillment from helping clients with their marketing endeavors through creative media. By utilizing storytelling, I am able to aid businesses in effectively communicating their messages and connecting with their target audiences.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart in the realm of filmmaking is my work ethic and a determination. I know there are lots of talented filmmakers out there and what gives me the edge is hard work. I firmly believe hard work is the cornerstone of success, and I approach my craft with a relentless commitment to excellence. Beyond sheer diligence, my ability to analyze scripts distinguishes me as a cinematographer who goes beyond the surface. By delving into the narrative, I make informed decisions on visual elements that not only complement but also enhance the storytelling. This analytical approach ensures that every frame serves a purpose and contributes to the overall cinematic experience. In a field where dedication and a discerning eye are paramount, I take pride in standing out through my unyielding work ethic and a thoughtful, script-centric approach to visual storytelling.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The journey will begin in Atlanta where they’ll be landing. I would start of with the most common tourist attraction like the Coca-Cola museum and the Georgia aquarium. Then, we’ll head to the Ponce City Market where there are vibrant hub of shops, eateries, and rooftop views. The alternative would be going to Duluth and get the infamous Korean BBQ. The next few days, we’ll go on an adventure to the northern part of Georgia, like Lake Lanier, Blue Ridge Mountain, and Tallulah Gorge State Park, and stay at a cabin. We’ll have a cookout, share stories by the campfire, and enjoy the nature view. Then, we’ll explore the historic district in Savannah with its cobblestone streets and picturesque squares. Finally, we’ll finish off in Tybee Island, a hidden coastal gem offering pristine beaches and laid back atmosphere.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my grad school professors at SCAD Atlanta. Their dedication to teaching and mentorship has been instrumental in shaping who I am today as a filmmaker. To these mentors who gave me invaluable knowledge and provided immense support, I am very grateful. I also want to mention my friends and family who, equally deserving of recognition, have encouraged me to move forward and never give up.
