We had the good fortune of connecting with Patty Myasia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My rhyme and reason is—inspire, empower and disrupt. That’s the motto I live by. That was the whole thought process behind starting what I currently have in motion, I wanted to inspire men/women who look like me, empower them and fashionably disrupt the dull spaces. My business is my way of handing the flowers back to the culture, black women—more than anything.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My designs are all hand painted/hand crafted by me, I use eye catching prints—and then I paint over it to steer the direction back to the culture. I’m intentional with making sure I always find a way to celebrate black/brown people. Thus far the journey has been easy, because I’m walking in purpose. I do my part, God does his—so there’s been minimal bumps on this road.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout-out my mother, Shamika. She’s the reason why I even embarked on the journey of pursuing what I love. She puts the batteries in my back to never give up. I could tell my mom I want to be an astronaut at 11:59pm, and by 1:00am she’ll be handing me the blueprint on how to make it come to life. Anything I profess with my mouth, she pushes me to accomplish. She believed in me long before I believed in myself, even when I wanted to quit—she wouldn’t let me. My mother is my lifeline, my top motivator and my biggest supporter. Every big moment of my life, she’s been front row for—eternally thankful.
