We had the good fortune of connecting with Mayakia Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mayakia, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorite quotes is from the book “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen. He profoundly expresses that “Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.”

This quote holds absolute truth and serves as a constant reminder that in order to manifest my aspirations, both personally and in my business, I must create a harmonious alignment between my spiritual and mental states in every aspect of my life.

Each day, I reflect on my surroundings and inquire whether the actions and choices I make today will bear the fruits necessary to overcome future challenges and manifest my desired outcomes for myself and my business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Rooted Vines emerged unexpectedly in my life, as a response to a traumatic experience I endured within the confines of a church. In 2007, the pastor of the church I attended was charged with violating two of my daughters, plunging me into a profound darkness characterized by thoughts of suicide and homicidal ideation. However, at my lowest point, I experienced a profound spiritual intervention. The Divine came to my aid, presenting me with seven transformative steps to liberate myself, which I wholeheartedly embraced. Over the course of the next two years, I dedicated myself to personal growth and found healing.

During this transformative journey, I received a profound calling to write a book, aimed at assisting others who have walked through the Valley of Death. Upon completing and publishing the book, I took a step back and surveyed the remarkable changes that had occurred in my life. It became evident that I had developed effective practices and strategies to maintain inner peace. This realization birthed the idea of Rooted Vines. I recognized that all three dimensions of existence—mental, physical, and spiritual—must be aligned for us to experience balance and harmony.

Undeniably, this path has been far from easy. My most formidable challenge lies in navigating the realm of social media. I often find it difficult to detach from the constant presence of my phone, but I have become acutely aware of the need to be intentional with my time spent on social platforms. In a world filled with distractions, I strive to prevent the noise of the external world from drowning out the quiet voice of my spirit. I have learned the importance of careful planning for productivity, while also recognizing the significance of allowing myself the space for rest and rejuvenation.

This new chapter in my life has introduced me to a previously unexplored facet of my being. It has demanded patience and self-compassion as I navigate unfamiliar territories and make mistakes along the way. It is my desire for the world to understand that limitless possibilities abound within our existence. Rooted Vines is dedicated not only to our physical well-being, but also to nurturing our mental and spiritual selves. It seeks to dismantle the systems and falsehoods that have infiltrated our way of life. For true wealth lies in our health, and we must refrain from chasing illusory treasures that render us useless in our later years.

My brand is rooted in the foundation of truth, extending like vines to embrace our community. We strive to create a nurturing environment, cultivating a space solely dedicated to our collective healing. Through teaching, encouragement, upliftment, and self-investment, we endeavor to foster positive change within ourselves. Rooted Vines aspires to dismantle the barriers that hinder our growth, unveiling the boundless potential that resides within each of us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be completely transparent, my family and I relocated to Atlanta just a year ago. In our exploration of the city, we fortuitously discovered a hidden gem known as Cafe Intermezzo in downtown Atlanta. This enchanting establishment is a captivating romantic ambiance, creating a truly memorable dining experience. The cuisine served at Cafe Intermezzo is nothing short of excellent, accompanied by impeccable service.

For nature enthusiasts and those seeking tranquility, a visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden is an absolute must. The gardens are a sight to behold, with breathtaking displays that leave visitors in awe. Additionally, a leisurely stroll through Piedmont Park presents a wonderful opportunity to further immerse oneself in the beauty of Atlanta.

Of course, no visit to Atlanta would be complete without a trip to the renowned Georgia Aquarium. This extraordinary aquatic wonderland is truly mind-blowing, offering an awe-inspiring experience that captivates visitors of all ages.

Furthermore, I highly recommend stopping by the Sober Social, a delightful spot that boasts delectable pastries and indulgent hot chocolate. It’s a perfect destination for those looking to savor delicious treats in a cozy atmosphere.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and admiration for the esteemed author James Allen. His book, “As a Man Thinketh,” has become an integral part of my daily routine, consistently encouraging me to introspect and critically examine not only my choices but also the underlying motivations behind them.

Furthermore, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Lamar Tyler and Ronnie Tyler, the dynamic duo behind the remarkable organization known as Traffic, Sales, & Profit (TSP). Their unwavering dedication to fostering and propelling the growth of black-owned businesses has been instrumental in my own journey as a black business owner. Their invaluable guidance and support have played a pivotal role in propelling me to the next level.
