We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cierra, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a teacher, my work-life balance was practically non-existent for the longest time. I used to be the go-to person for everything – coaching, sponsoring, leading the governance board, running social media – you name it, I was on it. I even dared to call myself “Miss Thomas Knows” on social media because my students thought I knew it all! I was burning the candle at both ends, all in the name of my beloved students. But as I’ve grown in my career, I’ve realized the importance of prioritizing my personal life and dialing back on the extra responsibilities.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Who would have thought I’d be proudly calling myself a “Creative” today? My journey into the realm of content creation began unexpectedly during my first year of teaching. When the pandemic struck in 2020, my senior class vanished from my classroom without a proper goodbye. With a background in Psychology, my primary focus shifted to the mental well-being of my students. Recognizing the pivotal role of social media in their lives, I leaped and created an Instagram page for them.
What truly sets me apart is the origin story of my page. It wasn’t just about churning out content; it was about building a digital sanctuary where my students could find connection and solace amidst the chaos of separation. This personal touch and intention behind my content creation is what fuels my passion and makes my work stand out.
My path to where I am today professionally has been far from a walk in the park. Transitioning from Psychology to teaching and now to being a Content Creator has been a whirlwind of challenges and personal growth. The transition into the creative world seemed to happen overnight, driven by my initial goal of motivating and uplifting students that eventually resonated with a broader audience. Throughout this journey, I’ve had to confront the discomfort of the unknown, battle self-doubt, and commit to continuous self-education.
The lessons I’ve gathered along the way are priceless. I’ve come to understand the significance of staying true to my vision, embracing feedback and growth, and cherishing the power of community and connection. My brand and story are deeply rooted in authenticity, empathy, and the aspiration to create content that goes beyond the surface and touches people on a profound level. I want the world to know that behind every video or post I create lies a narrative, a message that delves deeper than what meets the eye.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta for a week, I would plan an unforgettable itinerary that revolves around some of the city’s best spots, starting with a visit to Ponce City Market. This iconic spot offers a vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, and entertainment that captures the essence of Atlanta’s culture.
Day 1: We would kick off the trip with brunch at Skyline Park, a rooftop amusement park located at Ponce City Market. We’d then explore the various shops and boutiques within the market, followed by a leisurely stroll on the BeltLine, soaking in the city’s street art and energy.
Day 2: A visit to the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest in the world, would be on the agenda. We’d marvel at the diverse marine life and enjoy interactive exhibits. For lunch, we’d head to Krog Street Market, another food hall known for its diverse culinary offerings.
Day 3: A day trip to Stone Mountain Park would offer breathtaking views of the city skyline and outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the park’s attractions. In the evening, we’d sample some of Atlanta’s best barbecue at Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q.
Day 4: We’d spend the day exploring the historic neighborhoods of Inman Park and Old Fourth Ward, known for their charming architecture and eclectic vibe. Dinner at Two Urban Licks, a popular restaurant with live music and a vibrant atmosphere, would be a great way to end the day.
Day 5: A visit to the High Museum of Art to admire its impressive collection of contemporary and classic art would be a must. We’d then grab lunch at Ponce City Market’s Central Food Hall, sampling a variety of cuisines from around the world.
Day 6: A visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park would be a moving experience, paying tribute to the civil rights leader’s legacy. In the evening, we’d catch a show at the Fox Theatre, a historic venue known for its grandeur and performances.
Day 7: We’d wrap up the trip with a leisurely brunch at West Egg Café before heading to Piedmont Park for a relaxing afternoon picnic. As the sun sets, we’d make our way to the Atlanta Botanical Garden for a magical evening stroll through its captivating displays.
Throughout the week, we’d also make time to explore Atlanta’s vibrant nightlife scene, from trendy rooftop bars to cozy speakeasies, immersing ourselves in the city’s rich culture and lively atmosphere. Atlanta truly has something for everyone, and I know my best friends would have the time of their life exploring all that this dynamic city has to offer.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Coach Fuller! During my rookie year as a teacher, I crossed paths with Corey Fuller, the head football coach at Gadsden County High School. Teaching wasn’t my initial game plan, but Coach Fuller was the first to recognize the fire and passion burning inside me every time I stepped into the classroom. As an ex-NFL player, he gave me the opportunity to work alongside him and rub shoulders with legends like Deion Sanders and Bobby Bowen. His words of encouragement were the catalyst that made me realize teaching was my true calling. Big props to Coach Fuller for believing in me and lighting the path to my teaching journey!
